  1. okay this is a little tricky. I'm not using the basic vcd NTSC template. i tweaked it a bit to use a higher bitrate and use color correction and what not to help on the brightness. one thing is bad. I CANT KEEP A MOVIE IN LETTER BOX FORM when i turn it into MPEG. it will be letter box on windows media player, but once i use it on a vcd/dvd prog (e.g.; winDVD) or on my dvd player it will cut off the sides and make it look horrible ( i think it stretches it a bit). I AM DIEING FOR HELP ON THIS!!! PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks a TON!

  2. Well ...

I'm a step behind you. How do I get a DIVX file into TMpegEnc to begin with. It keeps telling me that the file is not supported.

  4. Thanks howie,

Now another newbie question. How do I load the older Divx codec (and where can I find it?)?

  5. Ok, after opening my eyes, I see the old codec is on the tools page. How do I point TMpegEnc at it tho?

  7. I just tried that (even rebooted before installing 3.11a) and I still get a can't open/unsupported error message. The file plays just fine in Media Player with either version of the DivX codec. I'm using the newest download of TMpegEnc ... should I try an older one?

  8. OK, thanks for all your help ... I found the trick in the TMpegEnc conversion page. Setting DirectShow priority to 1 did the trick.

  9. You could also use the old TMPGEnc12A which works with whatever DivX codec (I have 4.01 installed and it works fine). The old TMPGEnc12A is accessible from the Tools page.

  10. BLaRmuS, if you still haven't work out how to keep the letterbox format (the original question) all you need to do is...under the 'Advanced' tab in TMPGEnc make sure that the 'Source aspect ratio is set to 1:1 (VGA)and the letterbox format will remain the same when encoded.

  11. Clunk,

If you process the DIVX (version 4.xx) through Virtualdub
(both video and audio on direct stream copy) You can use
this outputfile in TMPGEnc.. (Last version)

This solved the same problem I had.

    Good luck.

I have never encountered the problem they are talking about, because I have been running all my Divx's through Virtualdub ever since I have an audio encoding problem with TMPGEnc. I don't have any problems at all now. Cool.....
