  1. I am running Win 98SE with TMPGenc and nero 5.5.

I tried to create a Super VCD. The problems i have are:

1). using 480x576 have given me a picture which is "stretched" from top to botton. How do l encode to show "normal/undistored" display? This is on playback with Windows Media Player.

2). with PAL, is the highest resolution for SVCD at 480x576?
Can l use a higher resolution at 720x480?

3). I have tried to create the SVCD with Nero. It gives me the message: "..invalid video stream: 25fps 720x576 pixels

Is 480x576 the Maximum resolution to use? Would a higher setting gives better video quality?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. 1) There's a setting to set the DAR to 16:9, not too sure about TMPGEnc, or add black borders

    2) Yes, the other one is DVD resolution

    3) That's cause it is an invalid stream, SVCD is 480x576

480x576 is the only res for SVCD spec, to improve video quality increas bitrate and use 2pass encoding (or in CCE 4 pass). If you want to increase your res to 480x576 you'd actually lose quality at the same bitrate, that's why DVD's take up so much room.

Think of it as each frame is a piece of card, bitrate is
the amount of paint per card..

Bigger Res = Bigger Card, less paint therefore worse pic
Bigger Bitrate = more paint, therefore better pic
Bigger card means you need more paint, therefore higher res needs more bitrate.
