  1. i am going to film a short commercial for a school project. I am using or attempting to use final cut pro 4 to put it together. I still have yet to buy a small tutorial book for it but thats beside the point. Now i want to use a specific song for the commercial but only a part of it.

Is there a specific program for mac so that i could use only a part of the song? Say only 20 seconds of it? Say a program similar to Sound Forge for the pc. I think thats the name of it.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Amadeus can be grabbed for free although it is only a trial version. You can grab any part of a song with that software and save it as a separate file.

You can accomplish that with FCP, iMovie, or QuickTime Pro. Your best bet would be to just use FCP since that's what you're already using. You need the song in AIFF format. Convert it with iTunes, iMovie, or QT Pro (I'm assuming that your song is MP3 or AAC). Import the AIFF into FCP. Double click the song in FCP, move the play head to the in point, click the 'Mark in' button. Move the Playhead to the out point, click the 'Mark out' button. File menu, Export, QT movie. If you can't do this, you REALLY need that book
