If I use adobe premiere with my avi file encoded with adobe and my firewire camera, DV avi, audio drops out in every audio mode other than uncompressed.
If I use tmpgenc to encode the same avi file to mpeg2, I get a speed up in frame rate and "chipmunk speak". This is rocket science and I never took physics.
I diagnose, fix, reprogram computers every single day and I'm good at it but this video stuff is so abstruse even a talented systems professional can't get a handle on it unless he sits down and dedicates a big part of his life to it. PHOOEY!
But I haven't quit yet. Any wise commentary would be appreciated

One thing in TMPGEnc, go to the settings and make sure that the framrate is the same as your input !!!!!
Other than that can you give us a step by step of what you do, with the settings you use. -
using tmpgenc, my frame rate is 29.97 in mpg2 output. This is the same as my input captured from firewire camera at 29.97 dv avi.
If I select mpg1, conversion is ok and speed is correct, if I select mpg2, speed is almost double. I am using the defaults as they appear in the program.
