    I transfered a movie mpg. file to my flash drive to view on my friends pc. He could not view using Windows Media Player v 10. A message said that codecs not installed. How do we know which codecs to download please. The movie views OK on my WMPlayer v9 OK

    Try opening it in Media Player Classic.

    It's propbably mpeg2, and Windows (hence media player) don't do those without 3rd party codecs installed. OTOH, there's not much WMP is good for anyway, so no great loss... You should try Forum Trolls suggestion.
