See, I formatted my pc not so long ago.
I downloaded an m2v codec, installed it, and everything was fine.
Then I wanted to try and play .vob without downloading powerdvd, etc, so I downloaded a codec too, and I think ('cause I'm not so sure) that was when the problems began...
All my m2v videos (and vob too I think) started to have problems: a pink bar on the right side and some noise (or I don't know what it's called) on the left, something like this:

and since that moment I haven't been able to make them play normally, I've uninstalled all the codecs and installed them again (not the .vob one) and the drivers too, and nothing seems to work...
And from today, now everytime I play ANY video (even flash animations I think) I get noise all over the screen (again, I'm not sure if that's the right term, but it's like when turn on some electronics and they make interference, like hair dryers and blenders), and sometimes it doesn't go off until I restart my pc. Also, at least in windows media player 6, when I enter full screen mode they dissapear...
About the m2v files, I noticed that when I turn off the overlays in WMP they play "ok" (because the pink bar dissapears, but they play slow as hell)...

So please can anyone help me go back to the time when everything was ok???
Re-installing the drivers didn't work today neither...

    THANX IN ADVANCE

Since your reformat have you reinstalled DirectX 9c?

Seems like you just haven't installed something. Open GL, DirectX, Directdraw, correct video card drivers, etc.

ok, I just remembered that yesterday I change my resolution from 16 bits color to 32 (because a page asked me to) and that was what make the "noise" appear, I changed it back to 16 and there's no noise when I play mi videos...

But the m2v videos still play with the pink bar on the right???
    Any advice on that???
as I said, when I first formatted my pc they worked... so there must be something I can do to make them work again

somehow after installing and reinstalling everything, I installed powerdvd and all the m2v videos play well... but there's no sound, from what I've seen I think powerdvd is reading the files as just video without audio.
On windows media player nothing has changed, the videos still play with the pink bar on the right, I've unistalled and installed WMP too...
    In WMP there is sound...

WMP is auto-detecting the "matching" filename. PDVD does not.
If you open (by dragging or Open mode) an *.m2v file, it will only open
in video-only mode. So, there is nothing wrong

Also, one possible reason why your video is not playing right (pink'ness)
is because that is an odd resolution. 704 x 538 (never heard of it)

sorry, if you got confused by the cap I posted, I think it was because I was on WMP and had the image auto-adjusted to the window size.
According to Powerdvd the video is 480x576 and according to WMP it's 768 x 576... WTF???
so... are you telling me I can't see my videos with sound on powerdvd???

By the way, I think there's something wrong with resolution in WMP, because I realized that the reason my MPG's and other videos are playing ok, is because their smaller than m2v, so when I'm on "window" mode and I make the video size smaller (50% or whatever) it looks ok until I go fullscreen...

Well.. it woudl be rediculous, but if you can't find another
alternative to play your source *.m2v / *.mp2 (or whatever audio it is) you
could probably dump it inside vdubMOD and import the audio, and then
"frameserve" it into PDVD. But, like I said, it's rediculous to bother.
