    Why haven't I heard of this earlier? OK, you have to use the Terminal. But what the heck. So I just found out about it and haven't had a chance to investigate. But, go here;
    http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/
    Download Binflash and check it out, ESPECIALLY if you have one of the supported drives!
    Oh, you can also use it to flash your firmware
    Maybe the 108 isn't such a shoe-in now...

    Or you could just use this GUI Bitsetter for X: DVDPlusTool http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/17985

    Yea Right... If you happen to have one of the TWO obscure, obsolete drives that DVDPlusTool supports. Bin-Flash Supports quite a few of the latest and greatest NEC compatible drives
    No contest.

  4. Currently I own a NEC 2510A but have it attached to my PC. I have been thinking of putting it in a firewire case to use on both my MAC and PC. Currently when I burn DL DVDs on my PC the book-type is set to DVD-ROM. Am I correct in assuming that this will remain the same when burning discs on the MAC? The information on the cdfreaks site makes me think that once it's set in the firmware permanently it stays this way. Thanks in advance.

    I can't give a yes/no on the 2510, I have a 3500 and I know that necflash reported that the booktype for DVD+DL was already set to DVD-ROM. This was before I manually set the booktype. Download necflash and run it with the -querybt flag to see the current BT settings.

    Well, I still haven't seen any reports of anyone using Binflash to bitset regular DVD+R discs. But, according to LasVegas over on the Firmware page, the PioData version of the Pioneer 108 automatically sets DVD+R and DVD+R DL to DVD-ROM.

    This is a little better than the regular Pioneer drive which only sets DVD+R DL. PioData also releases their own Firmware updates so I suppose you can update without losing the bitsetting ability. This is what I've heard, so, don't blame me if....

    Not a bad price either;

    Decisions, decisions....

    Yep. I'm burning Ritek 8X and TY 8X discs at 12X on my 3500AG with this firmware:
