Does anybody know of this product (RCA - rc7000). Can I upgrade the hardrive from 40G to 120G or change the dvd rom to a writer?
Thanks -garman

Be afraid. I purchased one of these from Circuit City maybe two years ago. It was a piece of garbage. Aside from some factory defects that would have necessitated an exchange anyway, the parts that did work were awful. Circuit City has a no-questions-asked return policy so I got my money back.
By the way, putting a DVD burner in it won't provide you any software that would allow the unit to burn to a DVD. A larger hard drive probably would require special formatting to do the chase play feature.
Among its annoying features is that it won't start playing live TV on your TV until it has started recording a couple seconds to the hard drive. This means every channel change requires a two second delay. I've forgotten many of my gripes during the week I had this heap (did I mention its continuously noisy fan even when it just is sitting there doing nothing?) but if I spared you this purchase an angel got its wings today.
As a disclaimer I may have had an earlier model because I don't remember the model number. If this is a later model and RCA had someone fix the awful bugs in its software, it may be tolerable after all. Still, I can't imagine it being good. -
Thanks for the 411. Now that being said about the quality. I'll give this unit a second thought. I'm also surprise about your poor rating, it is a RCA product. should somewhat be decent. Cheers -garman

100$ more you could get a recorder with a hard-drive that you could Upgrade with a larger hard-drive. I really dont like the RCA brand for this kind of thing. But thats just me..

For a hundred dollars more, what brands do you suggest?
thanks -
I dont have one with a hard-drive, but there are many in the DVD recorder section. with comparable features. Also if you do get one sell the Drive you replace, and it will cost less..asuming you have the new one.

RCA is not very good at anything anymore. One of several companies, like Sony, that has slowly fallen from grace.
A hard drive DVD recorder will run about $300 or more. Pioneer, Panasonic, JVC, many to choose from.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
