I don't see how since you're not adding anything to the disc that could make it imbalanced.

  2. That would be one of the pluses. Simply its part of the disk and not an add on.

  3. I would see this thing being useful (for me at least) making audio CD"s and DVD's. But since I'll be soon getting an mp3 player, I'll have no use for the Audio CD"s, and for the DVD"s, I only trust Maxell, and they so far haven't acquired a license for lightscribe. If they don't, then this will be useless to me. The technology looks promising, but if its on crappy media, all bets are off for me

I have yet to find a Maxell DVD-R or DVD+R, only Maxell DVD-RAMs.

  6. I'm curious - how long does it take to lightscribe a disk? I've heard it takes about 40 minutes to do one. Depending on complexity of content of course.

    Thanks ~ John

With a waiting time like that, I think I will just stick with a permanent marker.

  9. If its 40 minutes..... Then its dead in the water.

Had some customer report they thing the write time on a R200 to print a disk is way too long.

Are you sure its 40? Would figure the speed is about the same as writing the data side. Or could it be they need to "step" it manualy instead of reading the track.

A few minutes at most sounds good. Now, the only problem is to get other companies behind it. That label really looks quite exquisite.

Perhaps this technology could also get modern printers beyond the bubblejet, too. Here's to hoping.

  12. There are lazer color printers, which print like a photo, but they are crazy expensive still. A couple thousand

Don't know about pricing on the drives themselves, but HP is already selling new PCs with Dual Layer Lightscribe drives installed for as low as $399; not a bad deal if it's time for a new one.

EDIT: (Just saw BJ_M's link, guess I should have read all the way through again.)

If you can catch them in store today (I believe it's the last day). Staples has the Konica / Minolta 2300DL for $300 in store, no rebates. It's no longer listed on their site, although there are some newer models available for sale on their site now.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
