If you have an Athlon CPU, yes you have to uncheck audio, otherwise cce wont work.
There are several ways to frameserve to cce sp 2.5.
1] Avisynth and its mpeg2dec plugin. MPEG2DEC reads the .d2v serves directly to cce.
2] VFAPI and VirtualDub. Convert .d2v with VFAPI and open the fake avi in Vdub>frameserve to cce.
3] If you dont need any filters, just convert the .d2v with VFAPI and open it in cce.
4] If you have cce 2.6 or any problems with method 1 or 2, open the .d2v in TMPG, add filters, save project. Convert the project with VFAPI and open it in cce.
5] you can mix these methods as you like. TMPG accept .avs as well as .vdr. VirtualDub accept .avs. You can open a .vfapi.avi in Avisynth and VFAPI 1.03 converts .avs to .vfapi.avi.
This is my favorite method: http://www.doom9.org/mpg/d2a-mpeg2dec.htm

Actually for CCE you should always uncheck audio, it doesn't do it well at the best of times, use tooLame or SCMPX.
