  1. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to burning or ripping DVD's, but I am familiar with the formats. After some hunting around the FAQ's I can't seem to find an answer to my ?'s. I'm going to buy a new laptop and it will have my first DVD Burner in it. However the laptop I am looking at only have DVD+/RW capability. But I have lots already burned DVD-R discs with various things on them.
My question is would I be able to play my burned DVD-R discs in the DVD+R drive? And if I can play them would I be able to read and or rip them to burn them as DVD+R's (I guess I would have to change the file structure somehow, correct)

Yeah I know I could just get a dual format burner, but please humor me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Steve

    Hello,

    A dvd+r drive WILL play -r discs.

To backup the -r discs to +r simply copy them and burn them with your burning app. They are already small enough to fit on a single layer disc so just do a straight copy.
