Some play, Some don't - Why?

I have a Ricoh 5125 DVD +R/+RW recorder with the latest firmware 1.72. The only thing I have used it for is burning concert DVDs that I have bittorented from the various music sites. So far I have burned about 50 different DVDs. I have burned multiple copies of each of these 50 or so for friends depending on the bands they like, so I make at least 2 but usually 4 copies of each disc.

I use IMGTool and DVD Decrypter and Bit Setter to set the bit to DVD-ROM. I have 2 stand alone DVD players. A Panasonic and an Apex. My problem is that some will play on both, some will play on just the Panasonic, some will play on just the Apex and some will not play on either. This is consistent with every copy of a particular show, so I do not believe it is the media.

Is this because of the way the author created it? Is there some software to run the VOB or ISO files through to standardize them? I just don't know enough about this to understand why this is happening.

Bittorent itself isn't warez...
... but distributing DVDs of performances to friends is.
