I have a trackball, but I never use it. Everything else is Optical. Now I don't have to worry about mice getting worms. It's a pain in the butt to have to clean them so often. Some of my opticals have the scroll capability, others don't.

Sorry, this has been around the net for a while. I use optical mouse(s).

    MEMO:

"Mouse balls are now available as FRU (Field Replacement Unit). Therefore, if a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.

Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon the manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop-off method. Domestic balls are replaced by using the twist-off method. Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge.

Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately. It is recommended that each replacer have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction. Any customer missing his balls should suspect local personnel of removing these necessary items."

I'm still waiting on the consumer version of the TRUE 'optical' mouse (glasses) that track your eye movements.

    Hello,

Just don't use any eye drops and you'll only be able to blink a few times every hour anyway....

People with Turrets would still have to use a mouse, otherwise every application would be closing and opening every other moment. Sad, but true. I think blinking would have to be counted out, though I'm sure there are a number of us who barely blink 7 times an hour staring at our monitor while it's downloading or burning something. You blonk and the thing freezes up, crashes, or fails on ya. I run on the thought that a watched computer doesn't crash. Everytime I turn away, my wife says there's a problem and from then on out the computer needs major work, or needs to be F-Disked.

This is an old thread but...................

I decided to buy a trackball, just to relieve some of the wrist
    pain from using a mouse.

The trackball wasn't any better. In fact, that thing was so
frustrating........well, this is what I did............

I unplugged it from the computer and smashed it to the
concrete floor. Do you know how good that felt????? :P
    Yeah, $50 wasted!!!

So, if you are thinking 'bout getting a trackball, try one
    at the store first.
