  1. Hi, ive converted many many times ntsc AVIs to pal - my question is surely there must be some software out there somewhere that will do the whole process in 1 go without avin to extract the audio, etc etc etc and using different software to do the 1 job of conversion. I know many people will say why convert when DVD players etc will play both, the point is i want my DVDs to be PAL in the simplest way possible.

    Thanks in Advance

Some all-in-one tools can do that, like dvdsanta. but don't expect the best quality and some tools have problems with vbr audio and ac3 audio. Or use dvd2svcd(avi2dvd) or diko with tmpgenc or cinemacraft.

  3. OK thanks for the speedy reply , i think D.I.K.O sounds good (especially as its free). I am right in thinking its the AVI it converts from NTSC to a PAL AVI, if so thats exactly what im looking for.

    Thanks again

Why? PC's are not bothered by PAL/NTSC and AFAIK standalone divx players aren't either.

    So why

    Just curious.

Standalone DivX players will be concerned about format to some degree. They have to output in a compatible format for the TV/projector receiving the signal. If the resolution is not for the matching format, or the framerate is incorrect, issues arise. These include distorted aspect ratios and choppy playback.

In that case, the obvious way (to me anyway) for 23.976fps avi's (NTSC film) is to simply speed them up to 25fps for PAL. The audio will need to be shortened to match the playinmg time. Sevearl tools, including besweet and goldwave, will do this. This is how film is transferred to PAL DVD.

If your NTSC Avi's are 29.97fps (from DV for example) it becomes a bit trickier. There are several tools that do this with varying degrees of success. Try a forum search for more details.

The same issues can be had from re-encoding too.

  11. Thanks to all for your input

But my reasons for wanting to convert AVI ntsc to AVI pal are -

When converting an AVI ntsc to DVD pal there is a little jerkiness, or, as most AVI films are NTSC 23.976 they need to be converted to DVD ntsc 29 there is still now n again on some DVD players a little stutter now n again.
    So these are my reasons.

The smoothest results i have found are quite simply PAL avi to PAL dvd

So thanks again for all your input but i guess i need to stick with my current method of useing several bits of software to change video framerate and then adjust audio length..

  12. Wow, just a quick progress report, discovered that lil bit of software AVIFRATE for changing the video frame rate with great results, if only there was a similar bit of kit for the Audio.

There is for audio too: Just resample it with soundforge. But just set the samplerate, don't convert to the new sampleare...
This is a "cheap" way to speed up / slow down audio. It is useless of course for non PC viewing.

  14. So how would you use DVD2SVCD to change from pal to ntsc? Is there an option on one of the pages or do you need to edit an avs script?

I'm no expert but I have heard that Goldwave is good at changing the audio. First you extract it then you can stretch the audio to the exact length of the video using it"s "Time Warp" feature. I have yet to try it myself though...

  16. Yep, Goldwave is what i am presently useing, i was just hoping there was a piece of software that did it all in one go - Video and Audio

So at present i use AVIFRATE to change the video framerate
and use Goldwave or BeSweet to change the audio to fit the newly sized video length.

Guess i will need to stick to this routine untill someone finally comes up with the 1 piece of software to do it all at the click of a button.
