    Yoda,
    Speaking of Michigan .....
I was in Marquette (upper peninsula for those who don't know where it is ...it's in a narrow piece of land between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan) in Jan. 1988. We were doing some testing at K. I. Sawyer AFB, and the night before we were supposed to do the work Marquette got dumped on - 18 inches overnight. The next morning we noticed snowmobiles made up the majority of the street traffic ...the Pizza Hut was open with snowmobiles parked outside

But not only was snow covering everything, it was 14 below. I had procured an Eddie Bauer North Slope arctic parka just before leaving for the trip and it really came in handy

The base was closed to everyone except the SAC alert crews, so we hung out around town all day. Got in to the base the next day, and I got a nice personal tour of the inside of an alert B-52 from a full bird Colonel

The plane was inside a hangar and as I was sitting there in the copilot's seat, he warned me not to pull the orange lever to the left of the seat. He went on to say that it was the ejection handle, and if I were to pull it, they'd be peeling me off the ceiling of the hangar for days

Your mention of the weather there reminded me of that trip. It was the first and last time I've been to the UP

    Hello,

    UP is nice

Though they get a TON of snow. Some up there even have to get out of their houses on the SECOND STORY!

    Hello,

    http://www.clickondetroit.com/news/3961276/detail.html

    NASTY!

50 car pile up on I75

Fortunately my drive this morning was fine.

In fact it's all dry and sunny outside now. Windy and cold but dry.

Yeah, I know it. I stayed at the Tirolhoff a few years back on our trip around the lakes. From what I can remember, there's a massive bridge-like structure in the port that they use to load the ships with.

It's a really beautiful place - we watched the sun go down over the park with a couple of ice creams.

Next day we drove on to Paradise, right at the end of the UP. Apparently, Paradise gets dumped on by snow quite regularly.
    Regards,

    Rob
