First step, I'm using a standalone DVD recorder to store an analog home made video onto a DVD-RW in VR mode. Second step, I read this DVD-RW in my PC and copy the movie on one HDD. Then I can use TDA to author my target video DVD with menus, chapters etc... When completed I burn a DVD-R with Nero. The problem occurs when I try to read the final media with a standard DVD player. Sometimes it works well, sometimes the DVD player doesn't recognize the media and displays "no disc". I should say that for a designated movie it always works or not : this doesn't change from time to time. So I've tried to compare two home made DVD movies and I don't see any difference which would give any explanation. It seems to be related to the movie because I've tried different brands of media and burnt the same movie several times. I'm using mainly Ritek DVD-R x4 media. Any suggestion or feed back of experience ? Thanks in advance.

Try burning using TDA's in-built burning application, or use it to create an ISO for you then use DVDDecrypter to burn.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Thanks for your reply.
I've already burnt directly with TDA with no success. I'm going to try using ISO mode and DVDdecrypter but I'm not sure the problem occurs during the burning process.

If you can play the output from TDA on your PC, then the problem is either the burner, the burning software or the media.
    If in doubt, Google it.

TDA's burning engine has been known to make non-compliant DVDs. Use Nero.

    Or could be bad disc.

Thanks for your replies. I didn't have yet the time to do some new testing (expected end of the week).

jimmalenko: the video plays fine on my PC and on some recent DVD players (Sony or LG). The problem is located on Philips branded DVD players (recent or old). The PC burner is a Plextor PX-708 which seems to work well. I mainly use Nero as burning software. I've tried also TDA's built-in burning module in order to see if the result was going to be different.

lordsmurf: even Nero which is my favourite burning software doesn't create a "good" (compliant?) DVD.

I have to repeat that it seems to be related to the video. For some there is no problem whichever the burning or the authoring software. For others it doesn't work at all on Philips DVD players again whichever the burning or the authoring software.

I'm really frustrated. Do you have any clue ?

AFAIK Phillips is behind the + movement, but this should not result in any compliance or playback issues with - discs.

If you can author with TDA, and play the end result on your PC, and a couple of different DVD players, then there is nothing wrong with the video itself. If you then put the exact same disc that works into a phillips and it won't play, then it's more than likely that your phillips player doesn't like the brand of media.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. If the problem is really related to the movies, you could try a different authoring app.

borax: well I said that it seems to be related to the movie. I've already tried DVDlab instead of TDA and it gives the same result. So really disturbing.......

    Hello,

If it's the movie recapture, redownload, rerip it (however you acquired it ).

Or demuliplex it and remultiplex it. Maybe the streams are bad.

Or you could use virtualdubmpeg2 and it can analyze bad frames.

Thanks yoda313 for your reply. Your suggestion makes sense. I will try and use virtualdubmpeg2 to check my mpeg files. Is it able to handle VRO files ?
