  1. Allright, don't yell. I amy not even have a clue what I'm talking about here, but what I want to do is take a short looped dv or mov file (mac) and convert it to one of those gf animated files to be used on the web. Is there a way to do this? Or am I even more confused than I was when I first woke up this morning?

  2. Here is how I would approach this situation. If the video is a quicktime .MOV file I would use mov2avi to convert it to a AVI file. The I would use virtualdub to select all or part of the video that I want to use and then save it as a sequence of bitmap images. Then I would use a program like Paint Shop Pro to convert the bitmaps to gif images. Now remember, gifs allows only 256 colors, so the images might look like crap. Then from there I would use a gif animation tool such as Animagic Gif to create the animated gif file. Thats how I would approach this problem. Good Luck! Scotto

Most Gif animation programs will do this. Just import the video and export as gif.

    Here's one that will: http://www.ulead.com/ga/runme.htm

Personally I would use flash instead of gif for web animations perticularly if they are going to long.

If the DV has an AVI extension, open it in Adobe Image Ready 7. Edit if desired ...save out as animated GIF

That's what I used for this and many other animations I use here. I captured from the desktop in Camstudio first:
