  1. Hello all, I havent posted here in a very long time, and Im just wondering if I can get some reccomendation on what good simple software there is out there that I can use to make tracks on a video before it has been burned. Basically so I can skip from scene to scene on my DVD player.

I can't think of a simple one for adding chapters after it has been authored. IFO Edit can probably do it, and maybe a couple of other low level tools.

Tye simple tools will require you to reauthor to some degree. If the disk is just the movie, DVD Lab can load up the vobs (it will ask to demux - I would say yes to this), allow you to add chapters, then author it out again. Tmpgenc DVD author will allow you to something very similar.

IFOEdit can definitely do it ... for free. this post might be of some help.

Any decent authoring package can do it though - it depends on how complex you want to do it, whether there will be other titles on the DVD, whether you want menus, etc etc etc. as to which authoring software will be THE best.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Sorry it took so long to get back, but instead of putting up a new post, Im going to use this one.

Im going to try the IFOedit as soon as my video is encoded, but I have a question. Since I do this from time to time, the first I have ever started with was creating AVI to VCD using this guide https://www.videohelp.com/divxtovcd.htm which I am still using to author movies. Is there a better way? or better to create DVD instead of VCD?

    Thank You

Oh..I should mention that Im using a regular CD-R/RW drive and not a DVD burner.

That guide looks as good as any I've seen for VCD creation. I make a decision regarding VCD or DVD based on the source - if the frame size and/or bitrate and/or running time isn't high enough to require DVD, then I'll put it to VCD.

Well, DVD's out of the question then, isn't it ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

A regular DVD burner, they're pretty affordable these days.
