I have one of the older formac video capture devices. In the past I have either captured video via the software that comes with the formac device, Formac Studio TVR or recently someone on the list had suggested Vidi. I like Vidi because that it will capture in 2 gig segments that iMovie can bring in without the need to break down a hugh quicktime file in to segments. I just recently noticed that iMovie will also capture the video and break the clips into the 2 gig segments, great. However now the question, will I get the same type of quality by capturing this way when bringing into DVD Studio that I would get by capturing by using Vidi or Formac Studio TVR, thanks Wayne.

There is no difference in quality. The import is DV format regardless of the application used. It saves time to use iMovie to do the import, though. However, iMovie doesn't have the scheduling features of Vidi or the Formac software.

If you have Toast 6 Titanium you may have yet another option. Connect the Formac and launch Toast. You may see the Formac listed as a camera in the Toast Video window. Here you may be able to import directly to Toast from which you can do some basic trimming of the video before burning to a DVD. That worked for me with a ADVC-55 capture box but I don't know if it does with the Formac. If you try it let me know if it works.

Guess I jumped the gun a little. Come to find out that yes it does import the video into iMovie but the sound is all screwed up, nothing but static. Thanks Frobozz for the info. If you like I can try the toast 6 thing and will get back to you.
