  1. The Daewoo DVG-5000 is available at Sam's Club for $100 now. They no longer have the 3000N. Does anyone have experience with the 5000 yet? I want to play back mp3, vcd, svcd, miniDVD. someone said that the 3000 miniDVD required DD(AC-3) sound to work. same for 5000?

I am looking at these models and I had my heart set on miniDVD capability since my sources will be dig camcorder with 640x480 res.Daewoo 5000 (Sams $100). APEX 1500(Circuit City $80) but don't think it plays miniDVD.APEX 700(I cannot find where to buy). anybody got a clear picture on miniDVD with these models and where to buy a APEX 700 ?

  5. Thank you very much for the feedback.
Can you clear something up for me further?
The "720x480 mpeg2 burned onto CDR" you refer to, is this basically miniDVD? I have been told that there are 2 mpeg2 resolutions:
    (1) DVD-MPG2 which is DVD quality capable. This is used to make DVD on DVDr/w and miniDVD/cDVD on CDr/w.
    (2) MPG2 which is not quite DVD quality. This is used to make SVCD.
    (3) I don't know what XVCD is?
Is this your understanding as well?
I was looking at Pinnacle Express but they are now claiming it does NOT support miniDVD even though they announced last March that it was capable of storing DVD quality video on CDr/w. I have some Qs into their techies currently about this discrepency.
My main concern was preserving the miniDV camcorder resolution quality (it's 640x480 according to Panasonic PVDV-401) onto my PC then off to CDr/w for distribution to my family which I'll be buying them a Daewoo DVG-5000 for Christmas (that's the plan) and maybe one for me too. So, will the 640x cause an issue with the 720x for miniDVD (720x480 MPG2)?

    Thanks in advance.
