when trying to encode a divx file to mpg, there is a diagonal jagged line between the video and looks as if there is half the video on either sie of the screen. I have the divx codec installed. could anyone help on this.
Thanx All.

this can sometimes happen if the source files are not a 'standard' size or dividable by 16 ..
like using 541x233 for example .. some resizing apps and encoders will produce this result , so does virtual dub with SOME file types (i have seen it a lot with targa files) ..
the solution is to somehow resize to a 'standard size' first ....
not saying this is your problem -- but i have seen the exact same thing .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
here are the specs if this helps any
File : 738 MB (738 MB), duration: 2:00:53, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 49 %
Video : 627 MB, 725 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 503*380 (4:3), DIVX = OpenDivx v4, Supported
Audio : 110 MB, 128 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported -
that's some nasty resolution as BJ_M was guessing above. 503 is an odd number and rule no.1 is NEVER use odd numbers. Try resizing to 512x384 first, which is a nice mod-16 4:3 resolution.
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl -
is there a guide to resizing the video or how would be the best way to do it.
