  1. Fuji a210, 3.2 megapics, hardware and software zoom. I've been really happy with this camera, its inexpensive and takes great photos. I can post a few if you like.

  2. Megapixels do matter, but I fully agree that for ORDINARY purposes (i.e., enlargements up to around 10"x15") you're not going to get too much benefit from anything much more than 3 MP. Optics and CCD quality are more important than the "number of pixels".

Digital SLRs don't have the highest MP counts, but they have much better photo quality than digicams.

If you are going to make posters, then you are going to need more pixels to get the resolution. Your enlargements may still look pretty good but it won't compare against slide film or medium format film.

    Regards.

Most people have a bad habit of including too much crap in an image. This is one of the many things that makes a photographer. Shoot a subject, not a bunch of junk around the subject.

I'm a tight-crop photographer. I want my 100-300mm range available at all times.

If you want posters and billboards, you'll be on slide, or more likely in medium or large format photography. Not digital.

And "candid" means they're in their environment; i.e., the person isn't smiling at the camera or (*shudder*) saying "CHEEEEEZZZZE". I ******* hate that. Cheese goes on nachos. Portraits are normally not candid either.

  4. I own a Nikon 4300 and one Minolta DimageX. I like my 4300 a lot better than my Minolta as it has a lot more options can be converted to fully manual. Take a look at my pics: http://www.asvideoproductions.com/wordpress

This is one of the first pics I took with my (then) new Canon S100 Elph. The original sized one looks much better and I had to lighten it up a bit thanks to my weird monitor.
I'm not much of a cat person but this cat is WAY too cool. She keeps our front porch safe....from anyone trying to take her food...
She is a neighborhood stray cat that the family back home have sort of adopted.

I could not agree more... I HATE digital zoom.

My boss is looking for a digital camera for our facilities department.... I settled on the Canon PowerShot S1 IS. It has a 3.3 megapixel CCD with a 10x optical zoom. Nothing fancy just a good point and shoot for under $340.

    JSB

BTW I have a Canon Elph S110 at home.... great pocket camera ... only 2.x optical zoom though.

    Nikon CoolPix 4500.

I bought it as they were closing the swivel head camera out. I needed the Macro function for work related photos. Shots of small parts and such. If all it did was macro, I would buy it again.

Cannons have good feedback as point and shoot cameras.

the macro feature & optical zoom is what made me bump up to the Nikon - I don't make a living off pics, so I don't need a really monster camera.

but I do sell stuff on eBay, and sometimes I need to get close ups of parts of an object, and the HP just wasn't up to the task at all - complete blur for anything closer than a foot or more away.
