i joined 3 avi files that were 272,504KB a piece about 800MB. i used virtual dub to join these files and made sure both the audio and video were set to direct stream copy. my problem is that the file produced is 1,051,316KB. why did my file come out so big? what can i do to get this divx.avi to a dvdr?
thanx

Open DIVX files in Virtualdub -> edit and append as desired -> frameserve into TMPGENC and encode as MPEG-2 -> TMPGENC DVD Author -> joy!

what does
frameserve into TMPGENC -
ok im an idiot. the resolution on the avi is 480*352 instead of 560*416 or whatever and the audio is 44100hz so when i opened up tmpgnc it opened to vcd instead of dvd in the start wizard and that is why the file was to big(CD). n00b
ok now my question is when i go to encode this file after i fix the audio tmpgnc doesnt give me the option to output 2 seperate streams. can i demux this file in dvd lab and put it on a dvd? sorry im such a newbie. ive encoded a whole mess of different avi's this one just threw me for a loop :0

Why did you guys tell this guy to author to DVD from DivX when all he was wondering about was why he got excess filesize? VirtualDub has a default set bitrate that was probably higher than that of which existed in the DivX files you were trying to join. Also, you'll need to specify bitrate.
Anyway, you guys need to be a bit more organized. Don't tell a DivX guy to author to a DVD when all he wants is reduced filesize! You'll just confuse him more than he already is! -

Also, you'll need to specify bitrate.
i used avi-mux gui to join the files and that is how i finally got it worked out.
thanks everybody else for your help and sorry i confused everybody with my question? when i said "what can i do to get this divx.avi to a dvdr?" i was stuck and didnt know what to do next because at the time tmpg was telling me the file was to big. i worked it out though
