    Hello,

What are you doing with it????

Do you want to convert the audio to mp3 or make an audio cd of the audio????

Are you making it into a divx/xvid?????

There is no need to demultiplex at all if you just want to burn it to vcd/dvd as long as it meets the specs for those video types. Read the guides on the left for the conversion/destination you want.

If you don't know what type of mpeg file you have check out bitrate viewer. It will tell you what type it is.

A little more detail will let us help you more

As Yoda says, it depends on what you're considering doing.

In general, some authoring softwares require elementary streams. OTOH, if you're happy with the audio and just want to re-encode the video (or vice-versa), elementary streams mean you can isolate just the stream you wish to re-encode without inadvertently changing the other stream.
    If in doubt, Google it.

If there is a problem with anyone of the streams, you can separate the streams and then proceed to repair them.
