US models Liteon 5005/5045 - NTSC/PAL? Voltage?

Hi,

I recently asked Liteon's technical support whether
the US models of the Liteon 5005 and 5045 can record
in both PAL and NTSC (from the video inputs, not the tuner),
and whether they are 110/240 V compatible.

The reply (enclosed below) was that the US models of these two
recorders can record only in NTSC (and their voltage is 110V only)

I am surprised: I thought that the US model of the Liteon 5005 used
to be able to record in both PAL and NTSC (like the Liteon 5001),
and that it accepted 110V/240V.

Did they disable all these features in the latest version of the 5005?

Can anyone with a *recently manufactured* US model Liteon 5005
clarify whether it can still record PAL signals from its video inputs
(S-video or video composite).

Also, is the power supply of recent Liteon 5005's (US model) only
110V or 110/240V?

Both units record only on NTSC if you get the in the U.S.
The power supply is AC 100~120V, 60Hz

If you power cord is in a grommet and hard-wired to your unit....he is most likely correct that it has U.S. Current.
If the power cord looks like your printer power cord(it plugs into the back of the unit) he might be wrong. I use that as an indicator for the most part.
My DVD Recorder(U.S. Version) has a printer style power cord.....have I tried it on my new European current?

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the power cord type.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a Lite-on 5005 that I
can check: I want to order one by mail, and I can't find one
to actually see in Ontario...

I am hoping that someone in the US who sees them at Costco
(apparently Kmart also carry them now), can check the back
of this recorder, where the power cord is attached,
and read whether it is rated 110~240V 50/60Hz,
or just 110V, and let us all know

I just purchased the 5005 on Friday (11-26-04)from K-Mart. It was $149 and I paid $16 for a 1 yr replacement warranty from K-Mart. It is a Xmas gift but I did open the box and am reading up on it.

The power cord is separate from the unit. It says manufactured in China in September 2004 on the outside of the box. This is my first dvd recorder purchase and it's for someone who is a little technology challenged so we shall see.

It has on the cord:
7A 125V
LS - 7J

Great news! Thanks a lot for the information tryintoo.

I am amazed that the Lite-On service person
wrote to me that the US model Lite-on 5005
works only with 110V!
(see the first posting on this thread).

Given that this person was wrong on the voltage,
and that the voltage is 110/240 (euro-compatible),
I bet that the US 5005 is STILL able to record PAL signals ---
despite the "no" that I got from the Lite-on Service guy...

(but It would be nice to have someone actually double-check this by recording a PAL DVD...

Now the same questions (voltage? PAL/NTSC?)
remain about the US model of the Liteon 5045.
I guess we will have to wait till it is released...

I am pretty sure that the Lite-On 5005 tuner (US model) is NTSC only.
The question is whether the 5005 can record PAL signals from its composite and S-video inputs (not the RF coax cable).
I believe that the answer is affirmative...

I am not aware of DVD recorders that have PAL/NTSC tuners,
but that's probably only ignorance on my part.

Off-topic question: is any one aware of the planned release
date of the 5045 in the US?

Would seem to say its either not both. But that will be for when signal is required to go through tuner. Composite might not...
