I would definitely get rid of the stock fan and get a better one.

Its like either for some reason the secuirty on the project is ultra tight, or it ultra sucks so bad nobody has bothered to leak it.
Maybe its a plot by Intel to pay off MS so that an OS to use the Athlon 64 doesn't come out. -

ie, the draw over the minimal size of the die, what, 1/6 of a square inch, and 70 or 80 watts to be dissipated. One hot sumbitch. Cooling is getting to be more and more difficult.
Boxed processor is guaranteed to keep the chip cool enough to run, or they will replace under 3 year warranty. Buy a Super Thermotake, instead, stick it in your butt, dummy.
I just burned up a 2400 XP and thought I had the boxed HS, but , No,Volcano Copper. Tough shit.

Intel will warranty other HSF. There's a short list of approved ones, but they support them. At least they do on the server side of things. They don't support them overclocked. Intel chips will still throttle down until it shuts off the computer rather than damage the chip. The old Athlon chips didn't have this feature. Proper cooling will just get you better performance from your CPU, not necessarily keep it safer.

My AMD came from the makers running quite hot... played around with it and noticed that my side case fan was blowing the wrong way. HAH

so i dont get how they can tell what HSF you used in the first place?

Glock,
As far as AMD is concerned, if you have an HSF with a registered SN, not that you went to the site to do so, it is covered under the 3 year "Boxed", aka Processor in a Box, warranty.
Should you have gone to a nitrogen cooling system, so long as it was a PIB, you are covered.
