Personally I have been very happy with the program Slide Show Movie Maker. It is freeware, but has a very rich library of features, including:
    - many many great transitions
    - text effects and overlays
    - Ken Burns Effects and special picture effects
    - High quality output IMO
    - Music
    - Random Transitions
IMO its really just a great piece of software. I would be happy to send you a demo vid of it, just pm me. I've made quite a few slideshows with it and have been very happy with the results (especially quality). Its a free piece of software, you might as well give it a try before you buy anything because you really don't have anything to loose.
Memories on TV does all this without the bugs. SSMM is good, Mem on TV is great!

Do any of these programs (besides premiere) support widescreen pictures?
I've just added this feature(Pal/Ntsc 16:9) to my GUI - check it out - it's free: DVDslideshowGUI.
    Have fun,
