Hi All,
While I was back in the UK, I suffered dial-up () coz I knew I was coming out here...
Now I'm trying to webcam with my parents back there who are still on dial up, and they have soon learnt (and agreed) they need dial up. They're currently with BT for their phone.
Coz I'm outta touch (was never really in touch) with broadband ISPs in the UK - who are worth looking at, and who's worth avoiding?
They gonna want to use it for email, surfing, webcam and (once I get 'em into it) Skype. They won't be downloading loads of stuff. Ideally, the package would include free local and national calls, or some kind of deal on those calls.
So far, research from here on Google suggests:
www.onetel.co.uk/index.php/bundle1 -
£29.99 per month for 512k broadband + Unlimited phone calls
Unlimited broadband - no restrictions
Unlimited calls to UK landlines at any time
Free connection - save £50
Free modem - save £40
www.bulldogbroadband.com/flash.asp -
Monthly fee - FREE for 1st 2 months, then £40 per month
Connection fee - £60 reduced from £120
Phone - Includes phone line, No BT line rental, Free calls to Bulldog users, No minimum call charge, Connect calls to local and national UK landlines at 5.5p an hour. Say goodbye to BT's £34.50 (£31.50 if you pay by direct debit) quarterly line rental.
Internet - Unlimited usage, Up to 4 Mbps downstream, Up to 400 kbps upstream, Completely unrestricted broadband - no time or data download limits
www.ukonline.net -
Up to 1Mbps download speeds
Free set-up and broadband modem
£35 per month
Because I've only had a cursory look, I haven't read the small print on limits, if / when the download is throttled, upload speeds, queues, other catches etc.
All / any info would be greatly appreciated...
Cheers,
Daamon.

There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

Have a look at wanadoo (www.wanadoo.co.uk), this is what was freeserve before the French bought them out. They do three levels depending on a download limit. £17.99 a month for 1Mb broadband with a 2Gb per month limit is the cheapest. All packages include a modem and setup disk (which works perfectly if you follow the instructions!). Obviously they don't give any inclusive calls as they are only an ISP using your normal BT broadband enabled line. However, BT do some inclusive packages these days too. Have a look at www.bt.com for details.

Ok. Try Starting here for all things on UK broadband.
Personally i use F2s Not the cheapest for 1 meg (£35 for uncapped or £19.99 for a 5 gig cap) but i have had NO issues with them over the 2 years i have been with them. Current Connected time : 1289 hr, 41 min, 50 sec
Avoid Bulldog as they have quite bad speed issues....
The only way you will get any deals on phone calls is to go with a cable co ntl or the other one who i cant remember...Not bothered by small problems...
Spend a night alone with a mosquito -
Supernet are doing a 1 Mb/s for £22.99 per month with UNLIMITED downloads. (+ free connection and modem)

Thanks for all the replies so far - much appreciated. This is just a quick pop-in to see if what's been said - I'll have a closer read and reply more fully later. Cheers.
