playing VDC from HiFi system

I have a HIFI system, I understand that it can be connected to my TV and I can successfully play my VCD's on it and watch them on the TV screen.

Any ideas how and what is required.

You will need a VCD or DVD player.

I have a dvd player on my PC and a Matrox G400 graphic card - would this help my to view the VCD's on my TV ?

If the graphic card has a TV-out, sure. Better you test some different CD-RW on your standalone.

it doesnt have the TV-out (I think), what it is a 2 VGA type sockets hangingi off the card. maybe I cna get a convertor or something ???

Bad idea. You can get a RF converter, but the picture quality on the TV Sucks, what a waste of money, I know, because I tried it. Best bet is to buy a stand alone DVD player that will play VCD & SVCD & hook that up to your HI FI system. Check the compatibility list. I bought my DVD Player for less than $150 at Best Buys. Save the DVD player in your computer for ripping DVD.

The G400 is a 'dual head' card. If you visit the Matrox site, one of there FAQ sections has a pinout diagram for the second output on your card. Part of that is a standard RF out signal.

You should be able to cobble up a TV lead from that. Then you go into the advanced section of your video options and enable dual head DVD-MAX ( I think! I use a DVD player so I don't use the vido out of my G400. )

That should do it.
