(PS I'm only a noob to the new RAM, I was using PC100 on my old HP so it's jumped quite a bit since the last time I looked at ram ).

    Hello,

Northcat - I looked at a computer store website but they didn't have 133mhz PC3200 RAM!

How can I be running pc3200 ram if I can't buy it????

I was capping a video tape on my wintv pvr250 at the time. Would that effect the reading at all?????

"looked a computer store" sad...very sad....

    http://www.overclockers.com/articles740/index02.asp

this can explain it better than I can, I'm not familiar enough to explain it without having the BIOS in front of me.

Also ask Cobra, he has a OC guide.

    Hello,

Thanks norhtcat. I'll have some reading for this weekend.

I'll probably want to upgrade to 1gig of ram after I get a new 3d card

Just another suggestion for major speed enhancement in addition to the 1 GB or more of RAM.

Get another HD, a 20 GB or something, put it on a different IDE channel than your OS drive and put your Page file on it and take your page file off of your OS drive and off of your Primary IDE channel.

    For example, my setup is:

    Primary IDE -
Master - 60 GB OS Drive (no page file)
Slave - 120 GB Capture Drive

    Secondary IDE -
Master - 160 GB Finishing Drive (Page File = 2.5 x amount of RAM)
    Slave - DVD Burner

See I capture to the 120, I edit and then encode and output to the 160. Then when I go to make the final video, I put it all together and output the final project back on the 120 drive. Then when I use TMPGenc DVD Author or whatever, I have it write the ISO to the 60 or 120 drive so when I burn it, I'm not reading and writing over the same IDE channel.

I just try to keep heavy data transaction going between the IDE channels, I try to never read and write heavy data from one drive to another drive on the same channe.

    Just a suggestion.

    Hello,

    Thanks for the tip.

Though I'm spending so much on this computer I may wait a little bit before buying the ram and any additional storage space.

80gb is enough for me right now. And I'm quite happy with the speed for now.

It'll probably be after the holidays when I look for more ram. I just wanted to know what type to look for.

As I said I'll have some reading to do for this weekend.

I also went to www.blackviper.com and killed off all the unneeded services that XP thinks it needs.

    Microsoft those fuckers

I also do not have system restore enabled or any of that BS.

    Ohh.... I get it now.

So when I go looking for more ram in a month or so maybe I should look for PC 3200 at 533mhz right????

PC3200 = 400MHz. Since your chip runs at 533FSB all you really need (unless you're planning on overclocking) is PC2100 (266MHz). It believe that we seem to be getting memory speed mixed up with FSB. A chip with 400MHz FSB doesn't require 400MHz (PC3200) memory, it only requires 200MHz (PC1600) memory.

They are not that bad. :P

Not really. Just depends what you want to do with it!

I built a pc for our security cameras with a Celeron.
Then decided to do some video work with it. Worked great.

It won't run circles around my P4 machines but
    the price was right!

Building another one with a Celeron D. Saved bucks again.

For heavy video work the P4 probably shines, but to say Celeron
sux is like saying the '71 Pinto wasn't a nice car.

Well, maybe that's a bad example!!!

If it is the only car you have, then you do not knock it. :P

My mother had a '71 Chevy Vega. They weren't much better than the Pinto. Needed the engine replaced because the alum. block 4 had a crap design and warped. The replacement ate its own timing belts.

And having the air conditioner running with that 2-speed automatic transmission was an exercise in frustration when trying to get up to traffic speed

    But ...the Pinto was worse

    Hello,

    What about the "Components" hmm????

Dvd burners, 3d cards, dsl... Those are independent of the processor. But I needed a new platform to work from. The old Amd 850mhz HP just wasn't cutting it.
