    Hello,

How would I know if it's pciexpress????

I can live without a floppy drive. My old laptop I use for fluff stuff has a usb port so I can use my memory stick w/ adapter.

...and all this at the bargain price of $199.00!

    What did you expect? :P

Ok, on low end (bargain) pcs, whether eMachines Dell, HP, etc. Most of them forego the AGP slots. In fact, on many, you can see where the header mounts to the motherboard, they just don't populate them on those boards (name brand motherboards manufactured for above named companies). No, you cannot just solder a AGP header on them either.

Most new systems have shipped without 3.5 floppy drives for about a year and a half now. Since they all have USB, and can boot from CD/DVD, and every OS I've seen has bootable CD/DVD, they're just not needed anymore. You can still get them as a $20 add on option, or go buy one for $5.99 and install it.

I haven't install a floppy in the server I built a month ago, and haven't had the need for one.

    Hello,

Thanks. I'll do some research this week also.

The floppy ain't a big deal just a shock to my system that's all. I'm over it now.

    Kevin

EDIT - Tekkieman - that's ok they still make DDR PCI 3d cards so I'll manage.

yoda - Watch that 9200 series card. Some of the bargain pcs don't play well with anything over (I believe) 8300 series. I know this to be the case with similar bargain Dells.

I'll look up the info..... Is it TOO POWERFUL??? What about the ram and the CPU - aren't they strong enough to handle them????

Sorry. Without the specifics on your system, I can't say if it will work or not. I'm just finding a lot of similarities to the bargain Dells (like the 2400 series), which had problems with those video cards. You may not have any trouble with it at all. If you do encounter problems though, these little tidbits could save you hours of troubleshooting and exchanging cards.

    Hello,

I opened it last night to put in my single layer dvd burner. I still have to do my wintv pvr250 card.

I'll figure out EXACTLY what type of ram I have soon.

    Hello,

I played a game ONLINE last night

IT WAS A LOT OF FUN

I played Jedi Knight 2 Jedi Outcast with a friend. We even had Yahoo Messenger Voice Chat enabled in the background.

I had a ping of just under 100 and it was flying Even had a couple of people join us. We started on duels and then did capture the flag.

My team kept getting smoked but before I quit for the night we tied up the last game at 3-3 before I stopped.

Man I'm gonna load Wolfenstein Returns to Castle Wolfenstein, Medal Of Honor, and probably Quake 1+2 (don't have 3). I already have NHL 2002 loaded on the pc.

We're hooked up through www.xfire.com That is cool - it boots you up automatically.

For those interested my screen name for xfire is YODA313 I was suprised it was available

    ----------------

I can't WAIT to get my Wireless adapter for my XBOX to join XBOX LIVE. I'll be able to keep my xbox hooked up to surround sound and still go online.

I average about 300kbs DSL. Is that adequate for XBOX or is the PING more important for stability?????

    Hello,

I finally dubbed in my wintv pvr 250 card and it seems to work just fine.

I now only have one free pci slot left! Here's a pic of the motherboard layout:

And I finally looked at the memory stick - PC3200.

It didn't have any other detail. What are the speeds of that level of ram??? It has preinstalled one stick of 512MB DDR SDRAM in it if that helps.

    Kevin

EDIT - this is before I installed the capture card. So now I only have one slot left

No free PCI slot? So what?
None of mine are free. Guess what? Don't need to add anything else.

    Just another point of view.

    Hello,

Thanks for the link!!!! I think that has to be it. I'll keep that handy for later.

Actually now that I have usb2 I can add most stuff via USB which will be nice.

    Kevin

PS - how do I know what speed my ram is??? It's pc3200 but I couldn't find a speed rating????

    Yoda,

you need to go find or give me your email and I'll send it...

but you need a program called cpu-z. It will give you all the specifics of your MoBo, Processor, RAM, etc.

It's actually an overclocker's program but serves other purposes very well.

    It's only 230 KB.

This is a screen shot of the program, it runs independantly (you don't install it, you just run it). It is designed to work with desktops and doesn't like my notebook but works great with my desktop.

PM me your email address and I'll send it to you.

    Hello,

Thanks for the cpu program Northcat. I ran it and here are some of the results:

    CPU:

    RAM:

Now it's not a P4 but as the codename Prescott indicates it's a CELERON D processor.

Now is my ram speed 166mhz on the pc3200 scale?????
