  1. Just got from the Black Friday sale at Officemax with my brand spankin' new DigitalMax DVD burner ($80 before rebate, $39.99 after).

I am visiting another state right now and probably wont get a chance to install it in anything until I get back home, but from reading the manual, it references Lite-on.

    For those that care:

    dvd+r 16x
    dvd+r(DL) 2.4x
    dvd+rw 4x
    dvd-r 8x
    dvd-rw 4x
    dvd-rom 16x
    cd-r 48x
    cd-rw 24x
    cd-rom 48x

    Comes with:
    powerdvd 5
Nero: Dos Driver, Nero Express 6, INCD 4, Nervision Express 2, Nero Backitup, Mpeg 2 SVCD/DVD plug-in

    digitalmax model DRW-3S163

Also picked up a 50 pack of the Value Disc -R's (just felt wierd even looking at +R's) and a 10 pack of value disc DVD+RW's.

IF anyone could post back with confirmation of what the dvd burner actually is (is it a lite-on - and what model, etc.) and what the value disc stuff is that would be great.

That is almost certainly a Lite-On SOHW-1633S. Lite-On released a firmware update for that model enabling 12x DVD-R and 4x DL I believe, but you may want to wait for DigitalMax to release their version of it.

  3. It also could be a LiteOn 1613. If you ever looked at the LiteOn boxes, you'll see those same different color icons at the bottom.

    i own this drive

it is the 1633s and thats the bottom line

lite on is comming out with the bs42 firmware to enable 4x DL as the bs41 thjey forgot to do that so they pulled that one and the 12-r

    not bad for 40 bucks

  5. I applied the 1633s firmware upgrade and it took it and registers on dvddecrypter as a liteon 1633s.

I have only tested -R burns, but there were bad skips, etc. before the firmware upgrade (look in dvd writer section). But afterwards, I was burning perfectly at 4x with cheapo media (actually those cheapo 50 packs from office max).

  7. I was gonne get this Digital Max last week when they had the rebate.... I went there on Black Friday, soldout so I went online and bought a pioneer 108. I'm glad I made that decision, this liteon repackaged isn't to bad though.

  8. No idea when BS42 is going to come out. BS41 isn't bad; I use it and am happy with it. There's a copy of it available on my website (see sig).

code, what major changes does the bs41 do besides 12x -r since the 4xdl wasnt turned on like they said lol

does it make certain media be able to write faster?

  10. You can manually turn on 4x +R DL. Works, too. The -R now uses the faster PCAV instead of the slower ZCLV when burning at 8x. Also, bitsetting has been revamped and improved.

Go visit the LiteOn forum over at CDFreaks.com. A lot of these things have been asked and answered in the (very) long BS41 thread there.
