I was transfering large files from a PC to an external HD. During the transfer, I unplugged it (The USB) because someone walked in on me. Nothing illegal, but I didn't want THAT person to see that I owned an external HD for fear of him wanting to borrow it as he borrows MANY things. Anyway, I don't care about the data that I lost during transfer, it's not that important. BUT NOW, my external HD acts funky sometimes.
It doesn't show up in explorer (Which is fixed by switching it on then off) At the log on screen it says that the drives are UNREADABLE or there was a failure and all data was lost...but actually it's not. ALSO, the HD should turn off when the PC is turned off, but it doesn't at times. MOST annoyingly, when I access the G: drive (It's partitioned into F: and Git takes time for me to highlight any of the folders....
SO...after this long post...did I **** my HD!? Should I just format (Be a pain in the ass to do that)...any idea!?

You could right click on the drive for properties, then Tools and click on error checking. It has options for fix system errors and scan and recover bad sectors. If that doesn't work, maybe reformating is the easiest way.

hi,
maybe next time you could set the drive policy for quick removal, right click on drive select policies then optimize drive for quick removal to disable write caching in windows that case you can turn on/off your drive or unplug you drive without the safe removal thing to prevent data loss/corruption ...just my thoughts though.
