Hi
I recently purchased a Dvd burner a sony dru710a.
I was able to back up files photos etc no problem.
I then tryed to burn a movie to DVD-R media[ritek]
The programme i used is one click dvd copy.
The DVD player is a Toshiba sd 1700.
Now the first one i tryed was not recognized by the dvd player or computer drive,
Then i tryed a DVD -RW.which worked and played fine in both.
The Toshiba player specs say it can playback dvd-r not dvd-rw?
I am new to this and would apprecaite any feedback.
Also i have running in the background dvd4free.
Which was recommended by one click dvd to decrypt css protection.
My system is as follows.
p4 3.0
p4c800 mobo
sony dvd burner dru710a
a plextor cd burner.
nvidia fx 5900
1 gig of ram.
Thanks all the best wroding

you might want to do a search for the toshiba lawsuit that is going on right now. You may be entitled to a rebate/firmware upgrade/ etc.
Are you sure that it burned (stupid question, I know, but some folks have done the simulation and not the actual burn)?
The sure fire way to take out 99% of the potential problems is to use dvdshrink and dvddecrypter for the rip/shrink and burn. I dont say this because it is the only way, but the majority of the folks on the board (myself included) have experience with these 2 apps and more times than not, when the poster used this combination, their problem(s) were solved.
A few other things to consider:
1. defrag the drive(s)
2. burn at a slower speed (preferably 1x until you figure the problem out)
3....
I started to write 3 and I am leaning towards slowing down the burner. Taking a stab here, but RW is going to be at a slower speed than the -R. Sounds like that might be the culprit -
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I have downloaded the two programmes you suggested.
I am not sure exactly why i need both of them.
Dvd shrink as understand, decrypts and shrinks so i can fit onto a single dvd, then i use my own programme to burn.
But i don't understand the need for the other programme dvd decrypter.
It seems that the other one takes care of it.
By the way i have not tryed to burn anything yet, i just wanted to find out what is the best way to use these programmes.
As i say i'm very new to this.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Again
I have had one sucsess with the programmes you told me to use.
I first used dvd shrink to bring onto the hard drive and then i burned it using my software, one click dvd copy.It worked great.
Now i have done the same thing with another shorter movie.
When i try to burn the file from the hard drive it keeps telling me the file is to large and could not even fit on even a dual layer dvd?
Dvd shrink tells me that the file is only 3.4 gig in size.
I am confused about this especailly since i just had a sucsess doing the same thing with a much larger movie that did fit on one dvd.
Thanks for your help.

sounds like there is something goofy with that video that you are doing (possibly not compliant or something).
The reason that I mentioned that you should use dvdecrypter, is that it will burn DVDr's that will play in your dvd player. Nero, one click and all the rest are mentioned throughout this board as having some type of problems. True DVDecrypter has had a few, but 99% of them were ferretted out as human error.
I dont know anything about the other application that you are using, but what I believe is happening is that the video has 2 angles to it and the software you are using is treating it as two separate files. Not sure though.
Dvecrypter also rips files to your hard drive and also burns them. If you set up dvdshrink correctly (selecting ISO image to burn), dvddecrypter will automatically burn the image and it should play in your burner.
if possible post a screenshot of the app that you are using where it is telling you that it wont fit. -
Hi Macleod
Thanks for your help everything seems to be working now.
I am using dvd shrink with one click copy and it works great.

I am having a similar problem...but the problem I am having is that it plays fine, in my Sony DVP-NS325 DVD Player (Miracle is the DVD), but as soon as it hits the 1:55
x mark it start to skip and not play right...then gives me a Disc is dirty message (only for the last 10-12 minutes left in the move). I have cleaned my DVD player and I am using Memorex (RITEKG05) DVD -r's
and it playes fine on sub-2 hour movies, but craps out at the end (usually the last 10 - 15 minutes or so. I am using DVDshrink 3.2 and Nero 6.6.0.1 -
sounds to me like a media issue. I say this because the ends is the area where the dye gets thinner/crappier and X number of dvd players have problems (also the dvd burner/media has more wobble on the end).
Best bet is to shrink the disk to the 4000 mark and no higher for cheaper media. -
I have had problems getting DVD+R to work but complete success with DVD+RW. I think, but can't quite prove that the DVD+R media that I have used so far (several brands) has a rating that the burning software is picking up and using to burn with like 4X or 8X. The DVD+RW is rated at only 2.4X. Anyway the DVD+R discs that don't start or have a lot of pixelation were burned by programs that will not let me dictate the burn speed, it picks the maximum. I can turn those discs over and look at the discoloration of the burned area and see that the shading is not consistent. Some areas do not have the complete color change. However, if I can control the burn speed to 2.4X (Nero, DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter let me) then the DVD+R media will play fine without dropouts and the color change on the back side is consistent. SOOOOO. Granted the DVD+R media is probaly not is good as it should be. However I am not going to throw it all away. I can burn it at a slower rate and get good results. What I have been doing is burning first to DVD+RW and then making an ISO image of the DVD+RW and burning the image to DVD+R using DVDDeCrypter which will let me control the burn speed.
