you better post this in the conversion forum. Anyway, you can't simply resize choosing 16:9 instead or 4:3 or whatever. You need to know what your source resolution is, its display aspect ratio (being an AVI it's just square pixels), set your destination resolution and display aspect ratio and do your calculations accordingly. Not knowing this data I can't be of much help. You can start with reading some avi to dvd guides and especially a "how resolutions and aspect ratios work and how to resize" guide. Look for one written by DJRumpy in the guides section.

Once you know what you're doing, all it takes to calculate the final resolution is 1 minute and windows calculator, I kid you not!

I swear I've answered like a dozen how do I resize questions in the last few days lol.

If the original file plays with the bars included (in other words if you view it your editor and the bars are part of the video) set the display to 4:3. That would be a 16:9 movie overlayed on a 4:3 format. An additional suggestion would be cropping the bars and then set it as 16:9.

  5. A good reason not to use NeroVision. Get TMPGEnc.

  6. what program do i need to burn it by after & ..... what settings do i need to apply ..... i have tmpgenc

  7. In TMPGEnc there is an option called "clip frame" and you'll need to use this to mask off the black bars. When that's done you'll be able to set the encode size to 16:9 and when you convert, your footage will be sized correctly.
Of course if you only have a 4:3 screen to watch it on you're better of leaving it 4:3.

To answer your quetion you really need to say whether the black bars are part of the video. Are they visible in your editor?

  11. well I dont see them... but in ''media player they are there it's weird......

I really dunno what to do ... im only missing some few adjustments to have perfect fit on my tv since my DVd was on mode (16:9) so thats why it was fucked as **** but i set it back to 4:3 it's 100x better but .... still missing few like the credits last name (last letter is hidden on the right side)

  12. Okay, the reason that it's cutting off the letters is due to overscan. This can be fixed in TMPGEnc by using the center custom size feature. You'll have adjust this to add on a black border around the video. If you are encoding at 720x480 try entering in 704x480 for a custom size. If that still isn't enough you could try 696x472. The reason for this is to allow the black borders to be cut off instead of credits or subtitles.
You should also check out the clip frame option. Look at the preview and if you see black bars on top and bottom cut them off and add masking. Those bars will chew up a lot of bitrate so definitely cut them out.

Do a gspot (find gspot in the tools area) scan and report back what it says about your file (especially resolution!). Without knowing the source resolution it's kind of hard to guess how you should do the resizing!
