  1. Well, I had a Dell 9100 laptop till date and I make images of my harddrives very frequently (twice a month) Now I am getting an XPS with an upgraded configuration (2.8 to 3.4) (64MB 9700 to 128MB 9700) Now my question is: Will my Ghost disk image work on my XPS?

Maybe. 2K and XP can be forgiving, however

    1. Expect to have to activate again
    2. Make sure you have all the required drivers ready to go in advance
    3. Be prepared for stbility problems in the long term

I haven't done this with a laptop before, but I have done major hardware changes (MD, CPU, HDDs etc) under the OS. You wont get the same performance as you would from a clean build.

After applying the image, reboot into recovery mode and do a repair install of XP. This should replace all the low level system drivers in place from the old machine.

Good luck. I would reinstall myself.
