It seems I'm stuck with a lousy 1150 kbit/sec bitrate using Nero 5.5.5.1 to burn VCDs. If I try to use, say, an MPEG file with 1800 kbit/sec (converted using TMPEGEnc, using the right template, only changing the bitrate, changing to Video-CD "non-standard" (which I believe is correct in this case?) and some extra settings) my Samsung DVD-M205 player plays it back SLOWER. Had I for some reason chose a lower bitrate than 1150 it would play back faster than the original MPEG I guess... Why am I stuck with 1150 kbit/sec?

  2. Not fault of Nero, your DVD Player is not capable of playing a non-standard VCD.

    It isn't?
Oh well, I'll just have to stick with 1150 kbit then...

    Thanks!

Wait a minute, this is strange... In the compatibilty list on this very site the Samsung DVD-M205 is said to support XVCDs... Is that wrong?

  5. Don't check the "Creat standard compliant VCD" box when you make a VCD with Nero. My guess is that you're checking that box and Nero is re-encoding it in 1150 bitrate.

And 1150 is lower than 1800, but not slower. Playback speed is the same at either bitrate.

  6. myhrik, does the DVD Compatibility list say what is the reported to work Bitrate ?

tinycorkscrew, you'll be surprised how some DVD's can play the movies when not encoded in standards
