My problem is I was up alllllllllllllllllllll night trying to encode a .mkv to dvd format to burn before I leave on holiday vacation. Problem is when I woke up this morning the file had finished but it was widescreen vertically (lol). TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator encodes it fine but it's slow as a *****. I got my other files to convert with MainConcepts MPEG Encoder and they are great but it doesn't accept the .mkv format and time is running out and I need to do this before 4pm Pacific time. Is there something out there fast like MPEG Encoder that accepts .mkv?

Thanks in advance for any help

My own Golden Rule to follow when dealing with .mkv's is:

    DEMUX, DEMUX, DEMUX, DEMUX!!

Strip out the avi video ONLY (xvid?) with VDM using DSCopy.

Demux the audio stream required from VDM's STREAMS tab.

Convert the new video and audio streams SEPERATELY (ie use ES).

You should now be able to use MainConcept for the video (ES mode m2v or mpv output).

Cant say about the audio (format?) but converting the format to wav then to AC3/mp2 with FFMPEGGUI will be the quickest (use 192 as the bitrate).

Re-assemble m2v and audio in your authoring tool.
