On my laptop i had an older version of AVG antivirus. I upgraded to SP2 and the older version of AVG worked fine. I finally downloaded the latest version of AVG and my laptop wont boot. It hangs before it starts windows. At the boot screen if i select 'load last known working config' then windows will load but AVG is disabled. The XP shield pops up saying AVG is disabled and that i need an antivirus. Has anyone experienced this?

If the other version was working, you might want to go back to it.

I just downloaded AVG 7X to replace the 6X version and have no problems. I'm running it on a laptop with SP2. You might reinstall the program. Sounds like it is set to scan at bootup and is locking up there. You might try safe mode and uninstall it, then reinstall after a reboot.
