  1. Hello everybody,
just a quick question: what's in your opinion the best way to copy a non encrypted video dvd on a Mac?
I'm copying a lot of video dvds (using Toast dvd copy function and doing the disc image on hard drive first) and even if Toast does not reports read errors and verifies the burned disc, sometimes the resulting copy doesn't work really well (video stops here and there, menus are not correctly copied etc). Peecee friends say that they can resolve the problem copying (or ripping) the VIDEO_TS folder on the hard drive and then using the GetVTS errors in ifoedit (is there anything similar that we can do using myDVDEdit? I saw it has a function, already working, Create DVD from Title, what does this function?. So I was wondering if there's a better way to copy a dvd then using toast (ripping the disc and burning the VIDEO_TS folder, as an example). Please give your opinions
    thanks
    Filippo

Toast Copy mode is supposd to make a bit-for-bit duplicate of the source DVD. Your results are curious. I suggest posting this issue in Roxio's Toast 6 forum to find out if anyone there has a possible explanation. Does the same thing happen with different brands of media?

Others may disagree, but I don't see how ripping the non-encrypted DVD would be more reliable than Toast Copy mode.

As long as the source dvd has no problems [scrateches, dirt etc] the best way is the way you are doing it.

The error you are describing sounds like a MEDIA problem. What type of dvd media are you using.

if your image you save over from the source dvd plays 100% in dvd player there should be no reason why multiple copies of it wont work unless its crappy media

your other options are to OPTION-DRAG the dvd to your desktop to copy its concents and then reburn that, use COPY mode [requires 2 drives] or do it the way you are [which is the best way]

    (1) Defrag your hard drive. I know in Panther you're not supposed to need to, but for your purpose, it would help immensely.

    (2) To simply copy a non-encrypted DVD to your hard drive, just use Finder drag-n-drop.

  5. thanks for the replies: I, too, am convinced that the copy mode is the right one. As for the media, I use mostly RitekG04
