  1. Hi all. I've searched the forums but can't find the answers I need. Hope you can help! I have a copy of the film "Hero" on VCD which is in Chinese and has Chinese subtitles (I'm currently living in China). I understand I can add English subtitles to the film. I've downloaded a text copy of the subtitles (.srt file) but am not sure how to attach them to my movie. Should I use VobSub or DVobSub? Another program? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

VCD doesn't allow for switchable subs like SVCD (to some extent, even if no player handles them) and DVD. The subs are part of the movie, and can't be replaced.
You have to mask (crop) the area with the Chinese subs, add your subs with VirtualDub and reencode, losing quality. I'd convert the srt to .ssa with Subtitle Studio and add them using Avery Lee's subtitler filter. It will probably come out crap tho, with a big area cut off, and the rest of very low quality.
