I am just curious what are some the bitrates my DVDs are. Is there a way to find out?
Also, are there commercial DVDs out there that use half D1 instead of full D1?

Bitrate Viewer. Limited freeware edition allows you to see the bitrate, once installed, just drag and drop your vob file, or any multiplexed or elmentary mpeg stream onto the icon, it gives you the bitrate and other usefull information.
Some DVD players have the option to display the bitrate while playing. I believe Power DVD has this option on the PC.
I don't recall seeing any DVDs with 352x480 resolution, but I have seen many with 704x480.
