I will assume that Stilt is saying that noone should use XP, and stay with 2K with SP4.

@bazooka - How about...if you are experiencing problems due to SP2, and it is not specifically addressed by a software update or BIOS upgrade, then don't use SP2. Just take all necessary precautions to protect your system. Or, if your system is adequately protected, and you have no need for SP2, then don't bother with it. Is that a fair compromise? :P

You can see the perfomance test for yourself. Win2K blows away XP
I can also do everything on Win2k that I could on XP

@Stilt - Let's see, I have one notebook running 98SE, one running XP Pro SP2 (that DID hurt to say, bazooka), one desktop running W2K SP4/ FC2 (dual boot), one desktop running XP Home SP1, one desktop running XP Pro SP2 (yes, it hurts twice as much to say it twice, bazooka)/FC2 (dual boot), and the work desktop running XP Pro SP1. Have to test software under as many conditions as possible....

i've got a computer running sp1, and for what I need computers to do and the things I do with them, I do not notice anything at all different from a performance standpoint. I see no need to revert back to sp1 on the other machine.

We've got all opinions, and we all got ********... or however that saying goes. Can't think right with turkey on the brain.

how much secure does a PC need besides all the up to date antivirus software, a fire wall--both software and hard ware, and all the updates without XP2?? i use norton for everything and never had perfroance probs before SP2. now i am back with out SP2, all security updates, norton updates....and the sucker screams.

If you use IE, then SP2 is a must. IE is intrinsically more secure in SP2. For example, if you were using SP2, you wouldn't have been at risk from recent banner ad malware. Your firewall isn't going to help too much since presumably you let IE traffic THORUGH the firewall. Antivirus proggies help but they don't provide day 0 protection.

Of course, the risk wouldn't be there if you used Firefox...

Dude... gotta agree with you on this. Recently I removed Win2kSP4 and loaded XP but then turned all the fu-fu stuff off... What do I have now Win2kSP4.

We have a holiday called "Show Day" or "Royal Melbourne Show Day"
in Victoria where it was traditional for farmers to meet and "show off"
their best produce. It is not quite the same though. We do have an
"Australia Day" which is more like your Independence Day.
