  1. I have a SVCD file
found a guide to convert it to divx at the url:
    https://www.videohelp.com/avi2divx.htm

    it says...
If your source is MPEG2(SVCD or DVD MPG files)
or VOB you must use the Virtualdub-MPEG2.
    OK, got VirtualDub-MPEG2
    and followed the instructions...
It's suggested to use fast recompress mode
for video to avoid a useless double conversion
between color spaces... RGB to YUV to RGB again
BUT, it's also pointed out that if you are converting
from SVCD you MUST use full processing mode
because to resize video you have to use
virtualdub filters ...and they work only adopting
    full processing mode

It is possible to make the conversion
    doing the resize thing AND
deleting black bars due to letterboxing
    AND without losing the colors????????

    ...
    apart from that
    i always receive an error
    "Cannot start video compression
The source image format is not acceptable
    (error code -2)"

    sorry if i'm probably asking
    stupid things
I tried to avoid asking help
    reading a lot before asking
    but I'm really a newbie
and I'm still trying to keep in memory
all the infos gathered in these few hours

    thanks for any info/answer
    dee

  3. about the link you gave me...

isobuster asks for an image file...
sure that i can put my SVCD/MPEG2 file
into an ISO or similar image file...
but it seems just an additional step
    and i don't know...
    but it seems useless too
cause I can see the file...
so i don't need something to repair
a broken file i just need to convert
to another format for other reasons

probably i have to explain better
    what i'm trying to achieve

I can see the mpeg files correctly with
    PowerDVD but my problems are:
would like to have the file in a format that
can be distributed with different subtitles files
    spanish, english, portoguese...
    I have the subtitles
    in .srt or .sub format
    I have the video file
    in SVCD/MPEG2 format
BUT i cannot display subtitles and video
    together in powerdvd

would like to merge files in one divx file

    ...
    every help is really appreciated
    thanks
    dee

    I linked to wrong https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/141726.php#svcd

You can also try virtualdubmod instead of virtualdub-mpeg2.

but you can instead use Media Player Classic and play the svcd and add custom subtitles, just click on File->Load subtitle. Done!!!
