Regions are a method that supposedly prevents you from viewing a DVD in a part of the world where a film has not been released yet. Different parts of the world have a code, and if a DVD is not from your region it won't play.
Firmware is the code which actually controls your burner and tells it what to do."Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?"
