  1. I have a SVD file on a DVDR disc. It will not play on my Yamada set top DVD player. I have been told that I must create an image file from the disc and then re-record onto another disc using toast 6.

Can someone please explain how I do this. I am confused! Many thanks in advance.

You should be able to drag the MPEG2 folder from the burned disc to your hard drive. Then drag the enclosed .MPG file(s) to the Toast Video window (be sure Super Video CD is selected). Enter some new text for the titles and burn your SVCD to CD-R media.

  3. The file is a SVCD one. Myset-top DVD player normally plays most files (Quicktime, VCD etc) but these it does not. Any ideas?

The files play fine on my Mac.

    Thanks.

    Russ,

Your first post said you burned SVCD content on DVD-R media. That won't work on your standalone DVD player (and I'm not even sure how you did it).

If you have a properly burned SVCD burned to CD-R media then the question is "does your DVD player play SVCDs?" Many do not. You can search for your model of DVD player in the link titled "DVD Players" in the left-side column to learn if yours supports SVCD.

When you say the file is an SVCD one I don't know whether you are referring just to the .MPG file or to the authored disc. The disc should have the contents that are described in the "SVCD" link near the top left of this page.

I'm feeling a bit confused by your descriptions.

svcd is typically a .bin/.cue file
when this is burned it goes to a cdr that then holds the structure of the disk in svcd format.

for converting to dvd you must create an image of the cdr, back to the .bin/cue set so you can rip the mpeg file out. If you happen to still have the .bin/.cue set then the .bin is the disk image

vcdtoolsx can then rip that mpeg out of the .bin and you can begin the process of authoring the dvd so that it will play on your dvd player.

I am unaware of the ability to burn a svcd on a dvd unless you just did some data mode burn and put the files on the dvd, if thats the case it wont play at all
