hi there!
ive been searching these forums and gotten some hints, but i still cant figure this out!
ive used virtualdubmod tons of times to extract wav files of ogm files. however, when i do the same for mkv, i get an error saying that "no audio decompresser was found to decompress the source audio format"
so i looked around n found that mkvextractgui and mkvtoolnix, and i used the program to extract the audio, but it came out as small aac files? are they good quality?
i used dvdlab pro to take control of my streams and burn them, but dvdlab pro does not see the aac files! only ac3. but i cant find ANY converter to change aac to ANYTHING, so i can eventually get it 2 ac3!
am i missing something here? ive also read about using virtual dub 2 save as mp3 with the lame mp3 codec, but i tried that as well n i got the same error message...any help would be appreciated! thank you very much!

AAC files provide a superior quality to size ratio than most audio compressors. You can convert them to WAV using various applications - a Google search will uncover your options. Here's one I found:
http://www.imtoo.com/mp3-wav-converter.html
Once you have them in a .WAV file, you can do whatever you like with them. If you want them in .AC3, try ffmpegGui.
Good luck,

thanx for ure quick reply cobra!
i tried 2 use that program u linked to, and use the itoo wav converter, but once i did it, the aac file, which was around 15mb, was converted into a wav...that wasnt even 1mb large n my audio player said the file was corrupted? i tried this a few times with same results
i usually use ffmpeggui to convert my wav to ac3, but it does not seem to recognize aac? so i cannot convert aac to ac3 with it?
ahhhh this is getting me frustrated!! thanx for ure help!! =] -
Don't worry - it is frustrating to work with video sometimes, but you'll manage and the end result will be worth it.
ffmpegGUI does not accept AAC files, but if you convert your AAC to WAV using another package then you can use ffmpegGUI to make your AC3.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to suggest with the corrupt audio file. Does it play with QuickTime?

RareWares.org has a small application to decode AAC to WAV.
Very Simple, and based on FAAD2 so it will decode HE-AAC.

----edit----
sorry, you will need the library file "libmmd.dll" to make it work properly;

sorry guyz, thanx for all ure help, but im reali having difficulties here
when i use the mkthing to extract the aac files, i get 14-16mb files, for about a 20min episode..when i have ogms i usually get a 250mbish wav file, so this seemed reali small to me..usually when i change the wavs to ac3 i get around 40mb..
but anywayz, i tried that imtoo program to convert the small aac files to wavs, n they're still freaking tiny, not even a mb!! and that last program you listed, the rarewares one, i cant figure out how 2 even load it! it says it needs some kind of dll file?
ahhh if anyone can point out if im messing up the aac extraction or sumthing, or knows of a good aac to wav converter, PLEASE let me know! thank you for all your help! -
I'm not at home so I don't have all the apps handy but if you have nero6 I believe it will accept aac (after all it can encode to that format) and let you save to whatever other format you like (i.e. save to WAV PCM if you have editing to do)
Sorry, I had to go see about a girl -
you're getting a smaller file when you extract the aac stream because it has a higher compression ratio, therefore it's able to produce smaller-size file than say ac3. You get a huge file when you decode from whatever to PCM because PCM is uncompressed.
about 15MB files for 20 minutes of footage equals to about 96kb/s, which is a feasable bitrate for aac. Nothing to worry about there.Sorry, I had to go see about a girl -
alrite midnightsun, i tried using nero, i have an application called the wave editor? i assume that is what u were referring 2? anyways, i loaded up my file fine, it read, and i see all the frequency squiggly things in the wave editor =P
haha newayz, i tried to go save as wav, but my outputted wav is still the stoopid wav that is less than 1mb and gives an error when i try to play it! also, when i try to just play the aac in nero it says an error occured. when i open the aac in winamp it plays tho?
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh has anyone managed 2 do this?
thanx for all your help guyz, i REALLI appreciate it! =] -
sigh* sorry, again, i managed to get that rarewares.org program gastorgrab mentioned, and it seemed to convert the aac to a 350ish mb wav file that played fine on winamp!
happy me i thought, just go into ffmpegui n convert it to ac3, la la la....and i get an error in ffmpegui! the ac3 file it outputs is 0bytes! and it says "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
i tried jsut putting the wav into dvdlab pro, and it says the wav is the wrong frequency, 22.1 or sumthing instead of 48 or 96kHz. Is there a way to convert this?
ahhhhh what is going onnnnn??? can i convert this wav to ac3 another way?
thank you for all ure patience guyz, u have no idea how much this meanssss 2 me! -
EUREKA!!!! (or however u spell it =P)
anyways, i believe i FINALLY got it 2 work!!
i ended up using the aacdecdrop do convert it to a wav, and then i used besweet to convert to ac3! it SEEMS to be working!! (keeps fingers crossed)
anywayz, i just wanna say a bit THANK YOUUUUUU!!! to everyone who helped!!! i reali appreciate it!
