    Hello,

Do you have a mpeg2 codec installed???

If you have powerdvd that would work in file mode.

    Or zoom player.

Also check out the software players in the tools section on the left of the screen

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

PowerDVD or other software DVD player usually plays SVCD and VCD. (In contrast to playing SVCD/VCD files, where I admit Media Player Classic is handy, as it also is for all AVI format files.)

...and while we're talking about codecs - even if it sounds tempting with getting it all once and for all, avoid codec packs - they can screw your system beyond repair. Do as Baldrick suggests, use GSpot to tell you a specific AVI needs, find, download and install latest version of the one you're missing, and pretty soon, you'll have a system that will handle every kind of video you can throw at it.

PS! ffdshow is a nice codec to have installed... DS
