I just got hold of a Ricoh DVD+RW drive and have attempted to create a disc which will play on a standalone player. I'm pretty sure of the disc format / file layout etc, but so far I've been unable to find a player which will recognize it.
Anybody else had any successes with this type of disc ?

Gosh, I heard DVD+RW was 100% compatible with stand-alone DVD players, something like the definitive solution.

I have had the same problem. I have a Philips DVD+RW and DVD's would not play on my two DVD players. I took the disk to Sears and tried all of their units and it would only play in the Philips DVD player.
I was so frustrated I borrowed a DVD-R/RAM burner and made a DVD-R. The DVD-R disk played in my Sony and Panasonic DVD players beautifully.
I have read that DVD+RW is more compatible but doesn't seem true to me.
BTW - I am thinking of purchasing a Panasonic DVR-03. Anyone have any luck with this unit? -
I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!
I OWN HP DVD WRITER 100i AND PHILIPS DVD 955 PLAYER
DVD+RW MADE WITH NERO 5.5.6.4 DOES NOT WORK WITH PHILIPS DVD-955 PLAYER.
DVD+RW I MADE WITH U-LEAD MOVIE FACTORY AND MADE WITH HP RECORDNOW SOFTWARE BUNDLED WITH HP DVD WRITER 100i WORKS FINE WITH MY PHILIPS DVD-955 PLAYER.
WHY? I THINK NERO DOES NOT SUPPORT OSTA UDF 1.02 FORMAT NEEDED BY STANDALONE DVD PLAYERS (NOT SURE).
THE ONLY BUG I FOUND WITH U-LEAD DVD MOVIE FACTORY IS:
WHEN I MAKE MENUS WITH CHARPTERS THE MOVIE PLAYED ON MY PHILIPS 955 FREEZES ABOUT A SECOND BETWEEN CHARPTERS.
TRY U-LEAD MOVIE FACTORY OR HP RECORDNOW SOFTWARE FOR BURNING DVD+RW DISCS -
I also have a hp dvd+rw drive. And I've authored a DVD-video disk with the included software. I have batted 0/4
with players. Including an Apex 660, which is supposed
to play the disks, but does not appear to.

I have the pioneer A03 and have batted 100% with it (using pioneer dvd-rs) I will go up to the store next weekend and try them in other players, but my friends and I can all play the discs...

I have a HP DVD100i and it works fine with a 3? year old pioneer 505 and a Pana RP-56. Works fine with VCD-R and RW as well. Took those discs to Circuit City and tried app 10 players, ALL worked ok. Discs made with Ulead MF and MYDVD, no difference.Ulead MF works very well in DVD mode with settings of 8K VBR, nearly identical quality to TEMPGenc.Ulead MF cannot be beat for its price of $65 for the cd, works every time and quality FAR FAR better than MYDVD
