  1. i have had no problem in the last 5 years in trying to get any vcd/svcd/xvid/divx into a workable format be it vcd or dvd more recently. but in the past few months i am unable to get anything onto dvd. i've been trying to resolve this issue by trawling this forum and the internet but to no avail. anyway here's whats up.

what i am trying to do is basically resample the audio on a vcd so that it will go on dvd, with svcd and xvid/divx i just convert them to the vcd template i've made in tmpgenc with the audio frequency at 48KHz. i must add that i have been using the same vcd template for resampling the vcd audio as well, just for ease of use.

as i said before this has worked for over a year now. but recently i have been getting read errors in tmpgenc, everything will start fine then after a few minutes i get a read error. sometimes it will crash the whole system.

i have tried adjusting the vfapi settings but still the same problem. i've got a few versions of tmpgenc and it is the same problem in each one.

i read in a few other forums that Nero might be to blame and also direct X 9.0c could also cause problems. could either one of these be the problem?

the version of nero i'm running is 6.6.0.0 and i had service pack 2 installed for windowsXP professional. i have since taken SP2 off my machine and removed all codecs and re-installed them to try and remedy this problem. but still i get the read errors.

i had tried to demux an mpg1(vcd) file and resample the audio then mux them back but i had no amount of endless problems with the new *.mp2 being a silent track althought the demuxed one was in glorious stereo. and i had done nothing other than resample it using toolame and ssrc.

so does anyone have a solution to this problem at all?
the versions of tmpgenc i have been using are
    2.54.36.134
    2.52.58.169
    2.524.63.181

    thanks

  2. Try installing a new version of the codes of Divx and Xvid.

It is related with direct x 9, Nero and SP2 of WXP.
    Don't know why or how.

    I use w2k with sp4, direct x 8 and I have no such problems.

If VCD why not just demux into m1v and mp2(44.1khz) then try the audio only file on any media player to see that its still OK? (it only takes about two minutes with TMPG tools)

If the file is OK then bring it and the m1v file into TDA and let that resample the audio to 48khz.

For your avi's, use FFMPEGGUI for the audio (or demux Ac3 avi's) and TMPG for the video only (ES mode)...then as above bring the m2v and the AC3/mp2 into TDA.

Why are you muxing them back with TMPG? ES (m1v, m2v/mpv + audio) is far easier to handle/fix than mpeg...its what your authoring software is for......among other things.

Also whats NERO got to do with anything?

Also your VCD template has audio set at 48khz yes? But thats not VCD is it?, so what are you playing it on to hear the new 'muxed' audio?

The other thing it could be (if not a software / template problem) is a fragged HD or a HD with a bad block..check your HD.

  6. cheers for the comments monzie.

i have demuxed mpg and the mp2 works fine, its just after i resample it, it is just silent.

the reason i don't take the files to TDA is cos i was having problems with it resampling audio after i upgraded it. so i had to do it this way.

Nero was just a suggestion cos i saw some people were reporting problems with it on another board, but it is the only place i read about it.

As for the template, it is a vcd template with modified audio frequency so that it is dvd compliant. i just play it on media player and they have all worked fine so far.

i'll check my HD and get back to you but 2 of the versions of tmpgenc i have been using are on a seperate drive and the other one is on my C drive which is fragged.

    thanks
